Recall Overview

EKO, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall on July 17, 2015, of approximately 367,000 Sensible Eco Living 80L (21-Gallon) Motion Sensor Trash Cans sold exclusively through Costco Wholesale stores and Costco.com.

The recall addresses a potential laceration hazard associated with the black plastic protective collar located in the opening on the rear of the trash can.

Scope of Recall — Costco Item #807890 Only

This recall applies exclusively to the Sensible Eco Living 80L (21-Gallon) Motion Sensor Trash Can, Model EK9288BMT-80L, Costco Item #807890, sold through Costco between December 2013 and June 2015. This recalled model has been discontinued and is no longer manufactured or sold by EKO.

This recall does not apply to all other EKO trash cans. Consumers should check the product identification label on the underside of the trash can lid to verify the model number. If your trash can matches the recalled model, please stop using it immediately and follow the remedy instructions below.

Affected Product Identification

Important: Although this model has been discontinued, the recall remains in effect. Consumers who own the affected product should immediately stop using it and follow the recall remedy instructions provided below.

Reason for Recall

The black plastic protective collar located in the opening on the back of the trash can may become dislodged, exposing a sharp metal edge that poses a laceration hazard to consumers.

What Consumers Should Do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled trash cans.

Option 1 — Full Refund

Return the recalled trash can to Costco for a full refund.

Option 2 — Free Repair Kit

Contact EKO to request a free repair kit, which includes a redesigned black plastic protective collar and installation instructions.

When ordering, please specify glove size (S, M, L or XL). Use the chart below to properly size your glove.

Consumers should not resume using the recalled trash can until the appropriate repair has been completed.
